Jammu and Kashmir acceded to India on October 26, 1947. Ever since then, the sovereign nation has been facing one trouble after another in Kashmir and patriotic sections of society in this northern region – backbone of the nation – facing a grave threat to their very identity and personality and struggling for their survival and empowerment. The book throws light on the nature of problem in Kashmir and on the nature of Kashmiri leadership and its ideology. How systematically the custodians of Indian State promoted fissiparous tendencies, undermined national sovereignty and helped Kashmiri ruling elite create a wall of hatred between Kashmir and the rest of the country constitutes the heart of the book. Demographic changes in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh on an unprecedented scale, exclusion and disempowerment of Hindu-majority Jammu and Buddhist-dominated Leh, Nubra and Zanskar in trans-Himalayan Ladakh, abrogation of Articles 35A and 370 and reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir State in August 2019, politics in Kashmir and unrest in Jammu, Ladakh and Hindu refugee camps in Jammu post-August 2019 also constitute the heart of the book. The book, in addition, talks about what the Narendra Modi government has not done so far to achieve the desired results.

Author
Hari Om Hari Om is former Head of Jammu University’s History Department and former Dean of Jammu University’s Faculty of Social Sciences. He served the Indian Council of Historical Research for six years. He was also Professor of History in the NCERT, when Murli Manohar Joshi was Human Resource Development Minister and new history textbooks were written. He co-authored “Contemporary Indiaâ€, a textbook for the class IX students. He has authored “Administration of Justice in Jammu and Kashmirâ€, “Muslims of Jammu and Kashmirâ€, “Debacle in Kashmirâ€, “Beyond the Kashmir Valley†and “Jammu and Kashmir: Conflicting perceptions†and co-authored “Politics of autonomy in Jammu and Kashmirâ€, “Burning issues in Jammu and Kashmir†and “Social justice of Dr B R Ambedkarâ€. Besides, he has contributed thousands of articles to The Indian Express, The Hindu, The Hindustan Times, The Times of India, The Statesman, The Pioneer, The Tribune, Indian Defence Review, Amarujala, Dainik Jagran and Rashtriya Sahara.
