Prabhjot Kaur An outstanding poet who is widely known and admired throughout the country and has left an indelible mark as a great poet of Punjab. She has enriched modern Indian poetry by lending to it a unique intellectual sophistication and deep philosophical dimension. Vivid and graphic with touching pathos, her verse have become as popular as folk songs. Prabhjot has been bestowed with many national and international awards and honours for her writings, that includes the Padma Shri (1967), Sahitya Academy Award (1965), the Rajya Kavi (Poet Laureate) of Punjab, and was also nominated as a member of the Punjab Legislative Council (1966). Besides these, in 1968 she was honoured with the coveted award of ‘La Rose de France’ for her collection of poetry titled ‘Plateau’ which was published in French, a rare honour indeed. Her works have been translated into many foreign languages including Persian, Russian, English, Italian and Romanian in addition to French. She has represented India in many conferences in India and abroad and was designated as a member of the National Commission of UNESCO.
