Ending the HIV/AIDS Pandemic: A Holistic Approach
Ending the HIV/AIDS Pandemic: A Holistic Approach
The HIV/AIDS pandemic is one of worst pandemics to affect the human race. Over the decades, the morbidity and mortality rates have gradually come down but still there is no room for complacency. Progress achieved in national development has been wiped out in many countries making them more and more vulnerable with less resources to speedily address current and emerging problems. It is increasingly recognized globally that a ‘human rights’ approach can help minimize discrimination and social isolation brought in the wake of the pandemic. A broad developmental approach with ‘human rights’ at its core can enhance the quality of life in all its dimensions and shed light where there now seems to be only darkness. This book advocates a new holistic approach to end the pandemic. The ‘disease’ stigma must give way to a new paradigm shift where individuals and society must develop a new inclusive social contract that will give a new meaning and hope to life.
